OrbitMFD showing the earth (gray) as well as the ship's orbit (green) and ISS orbit (yellow)

OrbitMFD is an MFD that comes with the stock installation of Orbiter. It provides a graphical and numerical representation of a ship's orbit.

Credits

OrbitMFD is supplied with the stock installation of the Orbiter Spaceflight Simulator as provided by Dr Martin Schweiger and has been a part of the simulator since its inception.

Operation

OrbitMFD graphically shows the orbit of the ship in green and if a target is selected, the target's orbit, and a celestial body, typically the body with the most gravitational influence on the ship. Any body in the simulator can be selected to show the relation of the orbit to that body. In addition it will show a number of parameters. Pressing the SEL button on an MFD, OrbitMFD is the first MFD in the menu. The graphics will also display the ascending node with a solid square along the orbit, the descending node with an open square with a dotted line between the two, also the apoapsis with an open circle and periapsis with a solid circle. In addition, in the bottom center of the MFD, 'G' will show the amount of gravitational influence of the reference body (0 to 1.00), and will be green greater than 0.50, yellow less than 0.50.

Description
Orbit X The body about which the ship is orbiting automatically the body with the greatest gravitational influence on the ship, any body may be selected.
REF Shift+R Select the orbit reference body.
AR Shift+A OrbitMFD will select the reference body automatically, the body with the greatest gravitational influence on the ship.
TGT Shift+N Select a target vessel or natural body orbiting the same reference body.
NT Shift+N Deselects the target so that there is no target vessel or body.
MOD Shift+M Changes the display mode: Graphics + parameters, graphics only, or parameters only.
FRM Shift+F Frame of reference, equatorial or ecliptic.
PRJ Shift+P Orbital projection, reference frame, or ship's and target's frame.
DST Shift+D Switches parameters to distance from center of body or to altitude of mean radius of body.
HUD Shift+H Switches HUD to Orbit mode.
