OrbitMFD is a multi-functional display that is included in the Orbiter basic package. The MFD displays the orbit of the vessel the user has control and the body the ship is orbiting as well as the orbit of a target vessel or natural body.

Operation

To use OrbitMFD, the user turns power on a multifunctional display if it's not on, then selecting the SEL button at the bottom, the user then selects OrbitMFD. The body the vessel is orbiting is shown as a gray circle, the vessel's orbit is shown in green, and the target vessel or body is shown in green and the target vessel or body is shown in yellow. Each orbit also indicates the apoapsis as a open circle and the periapsis is indicated as a solid circle, each on opposite sides of the orbit from one another. A dotted line between them indicates the line of nodes where the vessel's orbital plane crosses the orbital plane of the target. The orbits are shown in the frame of reference of either the parent body's equatorial plane or the ecliptic, and can te switched with the FRM button. The point of view in the display is projected either from the plane of the ecliptic or from the plane of the vessel's orbit, selected by the PRJ button. By selecting the DST button, the periapsis, apoapsis, and the vessel's altitude is displayed as radius from the center of the body, or as distances from the body's surface. By selecting the MOD button, the display will show the osculating elements or the body and orbits, or both.
