The Moonbus is a craft from the World of 2001. It is one of a few crafts being really depicted in the film.

It serves as a passenger transport between two points on the Moon. It has tracks for surface moving, and hover thrusters that make it able to skim over the lunar surface in a manner similar to a helicopter, or make a suborbital ballistic hop. It has enough power even to reach lunar orbit and return from it safely.
