The Instrument Docking System is the means by which a spacecraft may be easily aligned with the vehicle and port with which it is to be docked. It consists of several components:

  • The IDS transmitter associated with the docking port
  • The navigational radio in the spacecraft
  • The Docking mode of the HUD

IDS transmissions are short-ranged, typically 10km or so.
